Rev. Grady H. Pierce

Served as pastor of several local churches

The Rev. Grady H. Pierce, 73, of Broken Arrow, Okla, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008.

Services were held Monday, Dec. 22, in Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, with interment in the Floral Haven Garden of Prayer. Full military rites with Present Arms salute, a 21-gun salute and Taps were observed and a folded flag was presented to his widow, Theresa Starr Pierce.

Rev. Pierce served his country for more than 11 years in the United States Air Force. He left military service to answer God's call to ministry. He attended Fruitland Bible Institute in Hendersonville, N.C., and completed his bachelor's degree at Christian Life School of Theology in Athens, Ga. Rev. Pierce served as pastor of several local churches - Smyrna Baptist Church in Smyrna, Trinity Baptist Church in Bessemer City, N.C., and Oakdale Baptist Church in Cowpens.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Denise Jones and husband, Nelson; two sons, Aaron Pierce and his wife, Jana, and Michael Dotson and his wife, Julie; five grandchildren, Bryan Pierce, Brooks Jones, Brittany Jones, Emma Pierce and Parker Dotson; and two sisters, Lucille Batchelor and Margaret McDaniel. A third granddaughter, Anna Paige Dotson, is due in January 2009.

Rev. Pierce was preceded in death by his father, L.D. Pierce; his mother, Emma Whiten Pierce; a son, Grady Jr.; and two brothers, Marvin Pierce and (twin) Brady "Teddy Bear" Pierce.

A celebration of his life is planned in Gaffney on Sunday, Jan 4, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 2929 Cherokee Ave. The Rev. Terry Pleasant will officiate.
