POLICE REPORT

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating three separate incidents involving the theft, or attempted theft, of safes.

According to one of the incident reports, someone entered a residence in the 100 block of Copper Trail in Blacksburg on Jan. 1 and attempted to break into a safe in the residence. Nothing was reported stolen.

Some time between Dec. 29 and Jan. 1, according to a second police report, someone forced entry to a home in the 1800 block of Old Georgia Highway and stole a safe from a bedroom. The safe contained about $2,600 as well as miscellaneous titles and paperwork. Total theft and damage losses as a result of this burglary are estimated at $3,350.

Some time between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, according to a third police report, someone went into a bedroom in the 200 block of Matthews Road and stole a small document safe. The safe and its contents are valued a combined $2,000.

Two vehicles parked on Gateway Drive were vandalized Jan. 1.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone scratched the paint on a 2006 Nissan and a 2002 Pontiac parked in the 100 block between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Police said a tire on one of the vehicles also was slashed. Damage is estimated at about $3,000.

Several items were reported stolen from a vehicle that had been parked on Wren Way Road in Blacksburg.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone went into a 2003 Dodge Ram parked in the 300 block between Dec. 30 and Dec. 31. An Alltel cell phone and charger, a flashlight and charger, and three CDs were reported missing. The items are valued at $220.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the burglary of a Twin Bridge Road home Dec. 31.

According to a police report, someone forced entry to a home in the 2100 block between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and stole a ring and a handgun valued at a combined $1,500.

The Gaffney Police Department is investigating the robbery of a man who had passed out from drinking.

According to a police report, a 27-year-old Second Avenue man had been drinking at a local bar between Dec. 30 and Dec. 31 with three other people. The man told police he blacked out as he and the other people were leaving the establishment. When he woke up, the man said he was beaten and robbed of his wallet and a cell phone and abandoned. He told police he subsequently was found by a cab driver and taken to the hospital.

Police said they were able to contact all three people who were with the Second Avenue man the night of the incident and all were interviewed by a city detective. No charges were reported as of Jan. 2.

A Hetty Hill Street woman's car sustained an estimated $400 in damage on Dec. 31 when someone tossed a brick.

According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, the woman's vehicle was damaged at about 4 a.m. on Carlisle Street when another woman threw a brick and hit the hood and windshield. The car owner told police she spoke with the woman who tossed the brick and was told the brick-thrower had mistaken her vehicle for someone else's. The brick-thrower allegedly refused to pay for the damage.

A vehicle was broken into and vandalized while it was parked on McCluney Drive on Dec. 31.

According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, someone shattered a side window on a 1999 Buick parked in the 500 block between 12:45 a.m. and 8 a.m. and stole a CD player with a touch screen valued at about $600. Police said the car's paint also was scratched on all sides and that all four of the car's 22-inch low profile tires were slashed.

A Mallard Lane property owner found a paintball gun under his deck Dec. 31.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the property owner did not know who put the paintball gun there and ownership was unclear. The paintball gun apparently was left under the man's porch between Dec. 26 and Dec. 31.

It was turned over to the sheriff's office.
