Lady Indians rally past Byrnes

      The Gaffney Lady Indians beat Byrnes on Friday 53-47, avenging an earlier loss. But it may have come at a high cost. In the waning moments of the game, Gaffney forward Ashlee Tate was carried off the court after injuring her knee. She is scheduled to undergo an MRI today to determine the extent of the injury.

      Limestone wrestlers place 15th in tourney Limestone wrestlers finished 15th out of 22 teams, with 35 points over two days and had two wrestlers place at the Midwest Classic. Senior Trey Moss advanced to the championship match in the heavyweight division. Moss, the bracket's third seed, advanced to the finals by decision, 3-1, over West Liberty's Mike Carpenter.

Indians lose focus, but not contest

      In a strong statement leading to the start of their region schedule on Friday, the Gaffney Indians proved Friday they could win despite playing poorly for a long stretch of the game. Leading by a much as 14 points in the second half, the Indians lost their focus but never the lead in holding off the visiting Byrnes Rebels, 50-46, before an enthusiastic home crowd.

Cold-shooting Saints fall to Mount Olive

      Mount Olive didn't score as much as usual. But then the Trojans didn't have to. Mount Olive made only 16 of its 55 shots from the field to beat the homestanding Limestone Saints, 50-44, on Saturday. Limestone was even colder from the field than the Trojans, making only 15 of their 52 shots from the field.

      The Limestone College women's basketball team defeated Conference Carolinas rival Mount Olive 73-60 Saturday night at the Timken Center. The Lady Saints improve to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while Mount Olive slips to 6-2 overall (2-1 league).

Former Indian named to all-conference team
STAFF REPORTS
      Gaffney native Trevon Greene was recently named all-conference for the Mid- State Football Association in Iowa. Greene, an outside linebacker, was the leading tackler for William Penn University in Oskelosa, Iowa. The redshirt junior was a fullback and linebacker on the 2003 Gaffney High state championship team before graduating high school in 2005.

      The Gaffney High wrestling team placed third at the Bamberg Raider Duals on Saturday. Gaffney's Blake Phillips earned the most outstanding wrestler award. Phillips posted a 5-0 mark with three pins to improve his overall mark to 19-2.
