BRIEFS Limestone wrestlers place 15th in tourney Limestone wrestlers finished 15th out of 22 teams, with 35 points over two days and had two wrestlers place at the Midwest Classic. Senior Trey Moss advanced to the championship match in the heavyweight division. Moss, the bracket's third seed, advanced to the finals by decision, 3-1, over West Liberty's Mike Carpenter. His only loss was by the hands of Cy Wainwright of Newberry, who defeated Moss by major decision, 20-7. Freshman Matt Hall completed his second day in seventh place in the 125 pound division. Hall lost by decision, 9-7, in his first match against sixth seeded Jimmy Nichols of Indianapolis, but bounced back to defeat Matt Wykoff of West Liberty, by forfeit, to place. Freshman Jeremy Parker was defeated by eighth seeded Cory Bloodgood of Central Missouri by decision, 4-3. In his second match of the day, Parker fell to seventh seeded Jay Sherer of Augustana, by decision 3-2. No. 5 Newberry won the team title, taking top honors with 149.5 total points. Cowher to stay at CBS Sports Bill Cowher doesn't plan to coach in the NFL next year, and will stay with CBS Sports as a studio analyst. Cowher was recently wooed by the New York Jets, but said during "The NFL Today" on Sunday that he's taking it "year to year. "It's a privilege and an honor to be a head coach in the National Football League," Cowher said. "And I have been flattered about the attention, but the timing right now is not right. I don't plan on coaching next year." The Super Bowl-winning coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006, Cowher took himself out of the running as a candidate for the Jets job on Dec. 30. He also was a candidate for the vacant Cleveland job, but asked to be taken off the list. CBS Sports will broadcast the 2010 Super Bowl in Miami. Parcells to remain with Dolphins Bill Parcells is staying with the Miami Dolphins, owner Wayne Huizenga said. After the team's playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Huizenga said Parcells has decided to remain for another season. Parcells' contract allows him to leave and still receive the $9-12 million remaining on his four-year contract if the franchise is sold. That sale is expected to be completed soon. But Huizenga said Parcells told him Friday he plans to remain as executive vice president of football operations. Boston College stuns Tarheels Tyrese Rice came through with another big game against North Carolina, one that ended all the talk of a perfect season for the top-ranked Tarheels. Rice scored 25 points and Rakim Sanders added 22 to help Boston College shock North Carolina 85-78 on Sunday night, likely ending the Tarheels' run atop the early season polls with a surprisingly easy one-sided road victory. Ravens top Miami, 27-9 The Baltimore Ravens had Chad Pennington spinning, ducking, on his heels and on his back. When he did manage to get a pass away, they were often there to snatch it.The Ravens came up with four interceptions, including one returned 64 yards for a touchdown by Ed Reed, and won 27-9 Sunday to spoil the Miami Dolphins' first playoff game in seven seasons. |
