POLICE REPORT

A vehicle was reported stolen from a West Buford Street apartment complex Jan. 5.

According to the Gaffney Police Department, someone stole a purple 2000 Acura Integra from outside an apartment at 1022 W. Buford St., between 10 p.m. Jan. 4 and 5:40 a.m. Jan. 5. There was no value listed for the car.

About $800 in appliances was discovered missing following the burglary of a Van Buren Street home.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a home in the 100 block was broken into between Dec. 25 and Jan. 5.

A 40-gallon water heater, a General Electric refrigerator and a Whirlpool washer were taken from the home.

A burglary was discovered Jan. 5 on Frye Road.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, an officer noticed signs of forced entry and a screen missing on a home in the 300 block.

A crime scene analyst was called to process the scene. Police did not say if anything was missing.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the theft of a car on Ellis Ferry Road.

A 2001 Ford Crown Victoria with tinted windows, 22-inch chrome wheels and a University of South Carolina license plate was taken from the 500 block between 10 p.m. Jan. 4 and 7:30 a.m. Jan. 5. The vehicle is valued at $9,500.

A 17-year-old Beltline Road teen was charged with second degree lynching Jan. 5 following a police investigation into a Dec. 19 incident during which a 15-year-old boy was the victim of a group assault outside a school bus.

According to a police report, the 15-year-old boy allegedly was assaulted by a group of teens Dec. 19 after his school bus driver stopped near Peachtree and Robinson Street because of a fight between two girls.

Police did not say what provoked the attack.

Burglars stole approximately $500 in cell phone accessories after breaking into a West Floyd Baker Boulevard cell phone store, according to the Gaffney Police Department.

According to a police report, officers initially were dispatched on an alarm call to the Alltel store, 1537 West Floyd Baker Blvd., at 1:27 a.m. Jan. 5.

Police reported they checked all the doors and found nothing out of place.

At 3:41 a.m., police were dispatched back to the scene and found the rear door had been forced open.

A security tape from inside the store showed two white males wearing ski masks had entered the store and stolen phone accessories.

Keys to a Cherokee County School District elementary school were among the items reported stolen from a vehicle Jan. 3 following the entry of a car parked on East Third Street.

According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle parked in the 200 block was entered between 10 p.m. Jan. 2 and 12:30 p.m. Jan. 3. Missing from the vehicle were soft drinks, about $13 in cash, sunglasses, keys to Mary Bramlett Elementary School and keys to the Habitat for Humanity Store.

A suspect was listed in the report but no charges were reported.

A 29-year-old Kents Trail man was charged with a third or subsequent offense of property crimes after he allegedly drank mouthwash at a West Buford Street pharmacy.

According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, police were dispatched to the CVS Pharmacy at about 3:30 p.m. regarding a report of a shoplifter in custody.

Police were told Shad McDowell Cornthwait allegedly took a bottle of mouthwash into the bathroom, drank from it, and then returned the opened bottle to the shelf. The mouthwash is valued at $5.

Police served Cornthwait with an arrest warrant Jan. 4 alleging the incident represented a third or subsequent offense of property crimes.

More than $1,200 in damage was reported at a Turner Trail home following a break-in discovered Jan. 3.

According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone smashed windows and damaged walls and cabinets in the home. Nothing was reported missing, however. The break-in occurred between 11 p.m. Jan. 2 and 11:25 a.m. Jan. 3.
