Parris re-elected chairman

By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

Hoke Parris Hoke Parris There is no change — once again — at the top of Cherokee County Council.

Hoke Parris and Rufus Foster were re-elected to council's top two posts without opposition at Monday's Cherokee County Council meeting.

Parris has served as chairman for 16 of his 19 years on council, while Foster has served as vice-chairman for the past several years.

Parris was humbled by the show of confidence.

"I appreciate the show of confidence county council has in me and I will always represent you in a fair way that's above reproach," Parris said.

Chairman is more than a figurehead position. The chairman presides over meetings, serves as ex-officio to all committees and represents the county at various functions. The chairman also is responsible for making committee assignments.

Council elects its officers at the first meeting of the new year.
