Gaffney's Kierra Phillips looks for an open teammate against rival Spartanburg on Tuesday. Gaffney's Kierra Phillips looks for an open teammate against rival Spartanburg on Tuesday. This isn't the way the Gaffney Lady Indians wanted to finish their non-region portion of their schedule.

Gaffney shot poorly from the field and committed too many turnovers in a 57-39 loss to Spartanburg on Tuesday.

Gaffney played its first game without forward Ashlee Tate, who injured her knee against Byrnes this past Friday. But Gaffney coach Stacey Parris said Tate's absence wasn't the deciding factor - her team's poor offensive execution was.

"I think (Spartanburg) played a zone the whole time," she said. "We jacked up some shots and rushed some threes that led to quick transition baskets (for Spartanburg)."

Keisha Leach led the Lady Indians with 15 points. She was the only Gaffney player in double figures.

The Vikings led most of the game, finally building a double digit lead at the end of the third quarter.

Parris Davidson's free throw narrowed the deficit to 43-35 early in the fourth quarter. Both teams traded a couple of baskets to make it 47- 39 with three minutes left in the game.

But those would be the last points the Lady Indians would score. Spartanburg ended the game on a 10-0 run.

Gaffney, 6-4, begins region play Friday at home against York.
