Saints snap losing streak with victory over St. Andrews

The Limestone College men's basketball team snapped its seven game losing streak with a 55-51 win over St. Andrews in Conference Carolinas action on Monday night at the Timken Center.

Limestone improves to 3-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Shawn Creal and Anthony Middleton scored 12 points apiece for Limestone. Middleton also had four blocks and six rebounds. Tyron Evans had a team-high eight boards and chipped in nine points. Bobby Grier had five assists.

The Knights' Joseph Gripper led all scorers with 26 points. Taiwon Grooms scored 12 points. Zack Garst posted a team-high eight rebounds.

St. Andrews took the lead out of the gate and had an 8- point advantage at the 10 minute mark.

Limestone went on a spurt to go ahead 19-17 with 4:03 left in the first half. Gripper regained the lead for St. Andrews with a made freethrow and layup in the final 36 seconds of the half.

Anthony Middleton Anthony Middleton Limestone got off to a good start in the second half. A 3- pointer by Middleton gave the Saints the lead once again at 22- 20. Limestone extended its lead to 53-45 lead with 1:46 left to play before Gripper sank a 3- pointer to cut Limestone's lead to five.

After a Saint turnover, Grooms hit a 3-pointer to pull St. Andrews within 53-51. But Evans iced the game for Limestone with a pair of free throws.

Limestone will host Lees- McRae on Thursday.
