Mae Ella "Mary" Cannady

Retired registered nurse

SPARTANBURG - Mae Ella "Mary" Goforth Cannady, 95, of 400 Webber Road, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at White Oak Estates Assisted Living.

Born July 13, 1913, in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Moses Wilkes and Dora Clementine Whelchel Goforth and widow of Walter K. Cannady Sr. She was a retired registered nurse and a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Parsons and her husband, David, of Goldsboro, N.C.; a son, Walter K. Cannady Jr. of Gaffney; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Cannady of Charleston; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Cannady was preceded in death by a son, Larry Cannady.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Revs. Sal Barone and Bill Adams. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation, c/o Hospice Care of South Carolina, P.O. Drawer 151, Drayton, SC 29333.
