Rev. Timothy H. McCluney Sr.
BLACKSBURG - The Rev. Timothy Howard McCluney Sr., 94, of 131 Moda Road, widower of Annie Mae Young McCluney and Mary Hogan McCluney, passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Born Dec. 18, 1914, in Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Alexander McCluney and the late Hannah Hughes McCluney. In addition to his wives and parents, Rev. McCluney was preceded in death by a son, Johnny McCluney.
Rev. McCluney was a member of Youngs Grove Baptist Church, where he served as an associate minister,
deacon and Sunday School teacher.
He was a U.S.
Army veteran of World War II and retired from Burton-Dixie after 36 years of employment.
Surviving are seven children, Timothy Howard McCluney Jr. (Janie) and Warren McCluney, both of Gainesville, Fla., Bessie Degree, Anita Chambers (Joseph) and Debra Gill, all of Gaffney, Gladys McCluney (Henry Miller) and Sandra McCluney, both of Blacksburg; two sisters, Vera Dawkins and Burdell Ponder (Rev. J.D.), both of Shelby; 13 grandchildren; another daughter-in-law, the Rev. Nettie McCluney; a sister-in-law, Lily McCluney of Salisbury, N.C., and a host of great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at Youngs Grove Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Larry Brooks, Dr. Ruby Miller, Dr. Michael Hull and Dr. George Kirby. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers will be the deacons and trustees of Youngs Grove Baptist Church and flower bearers will be the church's Senior Missionary.
The family is at the residence.
