Emma Upchurch

Emma Lou Mullinax Upchurch, 69, of 1122 McKowns Mountain Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at 212 Meadow Lane. Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Grady Edward Upchurch and daughter of the late William Mullinax and Effie Peterson Mullinax. She was retired from Peachtree Centre and a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Niles (Tom) Upchurch and wife, Annette, Miles Lee Upchurch and wife, Susie, and Ricky Carl Upchurch, all of Gaffney; two daughters, Moree Holt and husband, Jimmy, of Kannapolis, N.C., and Jackie Upchurch of Gaffney; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Winford Mullinax and wife, Janice, and Lenoah Mullinax and wife, Vivian, all of Gaffney; two sisters, Mozelle Mullinax and Altie Thompson, both of Gaffney. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Upchurch was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Ronnie Maldonado and Jessica Upchurch; two brothers, Marvin Mullinax and Oscar Mullinax; and two sisters, Maggie Sue Phillips and Carrie Humphries. The family will receive friends any time at the residence, 1122 McKowns Mountain Road. Jackie Upchurch and Kimberly Hampton will receive friends at the home of Kimberly and Ronnie Hampton, 630 Ballenger Road, Gaffney. Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Dean Painter and Bill Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Abingdon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grady Upchurch, 1122 McKowns Mountain Road, Gaffney, SC 29340.
