John E. Oglesby

Retired from R.R. Donnelley

COWPENS - John Edward Oglesby, 69, of Three Oaks Apartments, No. 8, Goforth Road, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at his residence.

Son of the late Melton ("Bud") Oglesby and the late Martha Wood Oglesby, he was born Dec. 28, 1940, in Cherokee County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Oglesby, Wyatt Oglesby and Robert Oglesby.

Mr. Oglesby was a graduate of Benjamin E. Mayes High School and retired from R.R. Donnelley & Sons.

Surviving are his son, Allen B. McKissick of Cowpens; six brothers, James Oglesby, Ulysses Oglesby, Kenneth Oglesby, all of High Point, N.C., the Rev. Ben Oglesby and Terry Oglesby, both of Cowpens, and Michael Oglesby of Gaffney; a sister, Kathy Fitzpatrick of Bowie, Md.; and a host of other relatives.

Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m. at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. C. Dennis Rector. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home of his niece, Deloris Carpenter, 1144 Bunch Lane, Cowpens.
