Joan B. Barrett

Joan Burdett Barrett of Laurinburg, N.C., passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at the age of 86.

Services were held Sunday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene in Benettsville, conducted by the Rev. Mark Foster. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park.

Mrs. Barrett was born March 30, 1922, in Nottingham, England, daughter of the late John and Alice Burdett. She was the devoted wife of the late Walter Barrett. She was a precious and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Barrett worked in retail, retiring after many years of dedicated service. She was also a longtime faithful member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Barrett was preceded in death by her son-in-law, William ("Dick") Dickerson.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Walter G. Barrett Jr. and wife, Linda, of Gaffney; a daughter, Donna Dickerson of Laurinburg; a brother, John Burdett of Nottingham, England; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
