AAU wrestlers draw crowd

      They came from South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. They ranged in age from 4 to 18. But they had one thing in common - a strong desire to earn a gold medal at Saturday's Team Indian Youth AAU wrestling event.

      Gaffney Middle remains unbeaten Gaffney Middle improved to 5-0 after defeating Carver 48-30 on Thursday. Thomas Hardy led the Chiefs with 21 points and O'Bryant Davidson added 13. Marquise Jackson and Rayshon Ellis played well defensively. Gaffney Middle plays Whitlock at home on Tuesday.

Defense takes a holiday in Indians' win over Cougars

      It was a good result, but Gaffney High boys basketball coach Mark Huff didn't seem that happy after a 97-76 region-opening victory over York on Friday. "We'll take the 97 points, but dad-gum giving up 76 points isn't very good," Huff said. "We have to play a lot better (at York).

Leach's heroics lifts Lady Indians to win

      Keisha Leach was at the right place at the right time for the Gaffney Lady Indians on Friday. With the Lady Indians holding for the last shot, Leach picked up the loose ball after a missed shot and hit the game-winning layup, lifting Gaffney to an exciting 44- 42 victory over visiting York on Friday.

Wildcats battle Landrum tough until pivotal third-quarter turnovers

      It's tough to win when you commit a turnover in crucial situations. The Blacksburg boys basketball team learned that lesson on Friday. Trailing by five points and with momentum, the Wildcats turned the ball over twice in a row. The visiting Landrum Cardinals turned those miscues into points en route to a 67-48 victory.

     MEDAL WINNER - Seven-year-old Josh Craig shows off his medal after winning the 45 lb. weight division at Saturday's AAU wrestling tournament sponsored by Team Indian AAU wrestling club of Gaffney. Nearly 300 wrestlers participated in the event at Gaffney High School. The event is the club's main fundraiser.

Queens holds off Lady Saints, 63-58

      What looked like it was going to be a one-sided contest turned into a competitive and scrappy game Saturday night at the Ovens Athletics Center. Queens University of Charlotte came away with the 63- 58 Conference Carolinas win over Limestone College.
