Second suspect taken into custody following Jan. 8 shooting
A second man being sought in connection with a shooting incident last week on Pacolet Highway has been taken into custody in Spartanburg County.
Nicholas Lee Stewart, 26, of Colony Road, Pacolet, was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 9.
The second man, Ricky Lynn Stewart Jr., 28, of Becknell Drive, Roebuck, was arrested and booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center at 1:47 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of public disorderly conduct. He was transferred to the Cherokee County Detention Center on Tuesday morning, where he too was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.
Charges against both men stem from a shooting that took place in the 3900 block of Pacolet highway just before 10 p.m. Jan. 8.
A 39-year-old man, Eric Shawn Gardner, suffered a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen. While details of the shooting remain sparse, Gardner's truck is currently sitting in the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office impound yard with two flat tires.
Chief Deputy Joel Hill said the shooting followed some type of argument involving a female and he believed Gardner was struck while he was inside his truck.
Gardner was airlifted from the scene by Spartanburg Regional Medical Center's Regional 1 helicopter. A hospital official could not say whether Gardner was a patient there and his condition was not immediately available.
"To the best of my knowledge, he's doing OK," Hill said.
Cherokee County Detention Center records list Nicholas Lee Stewart's bond as denied. A bond hearing for Ricky Lynn Stewart was pending.
