Mary Elizabeth Jefferies Bonner, 62, of 404 Oakland Ave., wife of Ernest Daniel Bonner, Sr., passed away Monday morning, Jan. 12, 2009, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Daughter of the late Broadus W. Jefferies Sr. and the late Jessie Mae Stevenson Jefferies, she was a native of Cherokee County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Bonner Jr.

Mrs. Bonner was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and a 1965 graduate of Granard High School. She was last employed by Meals- On-Wheels.

In addition to her husband of the home, she is survived by five children, Ms. Rosalind Bonner of the home, Ms. Karen Bonner of Columbia, South Carolina, Ms. Bridgette Dawkins of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and Mrs. Deitra B. Makupson and Timothy Bonner, both of Gaffney; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Hogue and Mrs. Floree Tate, both of Gaffney; two brothers, Claudus Jefferies of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Jessie Jefferies of Gaffney; fifteen grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives.

Services will be held Saturday, Jan.17, at 2 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Burnside officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
