GHS wrestling team makes history
      It's a new year and era for the Gaffney High wrestling team. For the first time in recent history, the Indians open the new year as a ranked team in the latest South Carolina Wrestling Coaches Association poll. The Indians are ranked 21st among Class AAAA teams.

      LC wrestling team loses two matches Despite victories by Matt Hall, Jeremy Parker, Dustin Baynes, Casey Bradley, Ian Barker and Joby Shrekhise, the Saints wrestling squad lost twice on Saturday at the National Duals. Limestone fell to Nebraska- Omaha, 42-9, and to Chadron State, 25-12.

Gaffney holds Union County star to 22 points in win
      The Union County Yellow Jackets may have the best player, but the Gaffney Indians had the better team on Tuesday. Josh Corry had 26 points and Jeff Brown added 22 to lead the Indians to a 97-81 victory and a season sweep over visiting Union County and its standout big man, Devin Booker.

Lady Indians rout Union County
      The Gaffney Lady Indians found their shooting touch in a 67-32 victory over visiting Union County on Tuesday. The Lady Indians were in control from the start, jumping to a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. They stretched their advantage to 38-18 at the half.

Wildcats can't overcome slow start in loss to Christ Church
      It's tough to win when you fall behind by double-digits in the first quarter. The Blacksburg Wildcats can attest to that after a 55-45 region loss at Christ Church on Tuesday. The Wildcats fell behind 21-3 in the first quarter and could never make up that deficit.

Lowe, Braves agree to $60 million, 4-year deal
      ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves reached a preliminary agreement Tuesday on a $60 million, four-year contract with Derek Lowe, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. The deal is subject to the pitching passing a physical, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the contract had not been completed.

Yates Racing to run Hall of Fame's team
      Hall of Fame Racing became the latest NASCAR team to use a merger to stave off collapse, aligning Tuesday with Yates Racing to keep its operation running into the new season. The team quickly signed former Cup Series champion Bobby Labonte to drive the No. 96 Ford, which will operate out of Yates' shop, and secured primary sponsorship from search engine Ask.com.
