Sorority has Christmas dinner; January meeting XI Alpha Delta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held its December meeting and Christmas dinner on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Four Seasons in Spartanburg. A party of 24 was present, which consisted of members and their spouses and/or friends. The service project for the month was filling Christmas stockings for the residents at Peachtree Centre with gifts donated by the sorority members. After the Beta Sigma Phi blessing, all enjoyed a delicious meal after which the president, Patty Greene, read a Christmas story. The first meeting of 2009 was held Monday, Jan. 5, at 7 p.m. at Magnolias of Gaffney. Co-hostess were Ann Fuller and Margaret Smith. Patty Greene called the meeting to order and the opening ritual was led by Ann Loftis. The secretary, Ruth Ann Ohlsen, gave the roll call and 12 members were present. Ohlsen also read minutes of the previous meeting that were approved. The treasurer's report was given and standing committee presented their reports and plans for the next few months. The service project for the month is to purchase heaters for those in need. Members are continuing their ways and means project and chairman Ann Loftis gave an update on by-laws. The chairman of membership, Libby Reed, is striving for new members. An interesting program titled "How Well Do You Know Your City" was presented by visiting speaker Brandi McBee, Cherokee County Clerk of Court. McBee explained some of her duties in court, which include jury management, child support and property transactions. She explained that all incoming mail and/or correspondence must be clocked, stamped and dated each day and noted that she is charge of all trials and calls to order all family courts, civil courts and the Grand Jury. The civil court is composed of 12 jurors while the Grand Jury has 18 members. The next meeting will be Monday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. at the home of Billie Taylor. |
