Gospel singings
The Singing Echoes of Cleveland, Tenn., will present a gospel concert Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 2929 Cherokee Ave.
The United Joy Singers of Spartanburg will be in concert Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Chesnee Gospel Music Center, 672 Greenlake Road, Chesnee. Concessions on be sale starting at 5:30 p.m.
Harris First Baptist Church will have a gospel singing Sunday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. featuring The Bradley Brothers of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Point of Light of Pickens.
Cherokee Falls Baptist Church, 109 School St., Cherokee Falls, will have an "In- House Singing" on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 6 p.m.
True Gospel Independent Baptist Church on Pondfield Road will have a gospel singing Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. featuring Acoustic Faith.
Community programs
Peachtree Centre will have a special in-service workshop, "Facing Alzheimer's," on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Session one will be from 2-3 p.m. and session two will be from 3-4 p.m. Sponsored by Gentiva Hospice, the workshop is for families, staff and the community and will be held in the Unit 3 dining area.
Fund raisers
The Antioch Community Center on Antioch Church Road north of Blacksburg, just off Hwy. 29, will have its annual chicken stew on Saturday, Jan. 24. Hamburgers, hot dogs, desserts and drinks will also be sold. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until sold out. Eat in or carry out.
Church news
Bethany Baptist Church, 215 Wilkinsville Hwy., will celebrate Baptist Men's Day on Sunday, Jan. 25. The day will begin with a men's and boys' breakfast at 8:30 a.m. During the worship service at 11 a.m., there will be an all male choir. Testimonies will be given by Billy Benton, Kenny Harris, Frank Hawkins, Elvin Henslee, Larry Gossett and Brad Medley. Special music will be performed by the Bethany Baptist Men's Quintet. New. Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 154 Roundtree Road, will have a "Unity Night" program on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. Speaker will be Helen Cunningham.
The Youth Department of Shady Grove Baptist Church will have its monthly Youth Day service Sunday, Jan. 25, beginning with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. Guest speaker for the 11 a.m. worship service will be Minister Milton Edwards, Associate of the Allen Temple Methodist Church. The Primary Department will be in charge of the morning pulpit service, serve as Sunday School teachers, and will be in charge of all activities for the day.
Brother Phillip Smith will preach his trial sermon Sunday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 1809 Old Post Road.
Meetings
Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 will meet Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Community Building in Blacksburg. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.
