Ralph J. Hayes Sr.

Self-employed truck driver

SPARTANBURG - Ralph James Hayes Sr., 76, of 101 Applewood Lane, husband of Ruby Brackett Hayes, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at 8:30 a.m. at his home.

Born March 13, 1932, in New York, N.Y., he was the son of the late James Hayes and the late Alice Butler Hayes. He was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church, a self-employed truck driver and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Ralph Hayes Jr. of Taylors, Ronald Brackett of Greenville and Donald Brackett of Jonesboro, Ga.; six grandchildren; an aunt, Lillian Hunter (Bennie) of Cowpens; four brothers in-law, Dr. A.L. Brackett of Union, Douglas Brackett of Spartanburg, Winfort Brackett of Woodbridge, Va., and Ace Brackett of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five sisters-in-law, Sarah Brackett of Columbia, Corrie Brackett, Ruby Mae Brackett, both of Cowpens, Vera Brackett of Woodbridge, Va., and Maxine Brackett of Spartanburg; and a host of other relatives.

Homegoing services will be held Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr. and Dr. A.L. Brackett officiating.
