I do not answer to them; they answer to me
Dear Editor:
We are well into the "change" promised during the presidential campaign. The promised transparency and openness of government has not happened. A majority of promises made by the newly elected president have already been broken.
Under the guise of "stimulus" the Congress and president have spent more money than all the other presidents in history, leaving trillions in debt for our grandchildren and their children.
I believe America is good, that the American people are good, but that the American government and her leaders are not truthful or forthcoming. I also believe that it is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my opinion about how government operates. I believe that the government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me. I am tired of writing and calling my so-called elected "representatives" in Washington only to be ignored.
These same representatives are now in the process of "redistributing" our wealth, creating a nanny-state, and otherwise beginning a cradle-to-grave system of supporting people who cannot or will not try to help themselves.
Most of us have worked hard all our lives and share our gains with whom we want, and our government cannot force us to be charitable. All people have a right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
I believe in God and He is the center of my life. My family is sacred. My wife and I are the ultimate authority, not the government. I always try to be an honest person and believe justice is blind. I believe that no one is above the law, both God's law and man's, and I would like to think that our government representatives feel the same.
I would ask that on election day the above values and principles be taken into consideration before choosing who will represent us in government. Thank you, Bob Gilbert Blacksburg, S.C.
