Dog alerts woman when blaze erupts
Fire broke out at this residence at 413 Colonial Ave. at about 3 p.m. Saturday. A dog alerted a Colonial Avenue resident to a kitchen fire Saturday, allowing her to get out of the home before super-heated gases spread through the structure and ignited.
Fire broke out at 413 Colonial Ave. around 3 p.m. Saturday. City of Gaffney Fire Training Officer Scott Coleman said all indications pointed to an accident.
While fire was confined to the kitchen, Coleman said super-heated gases spread throughout the home and ultimately ignited. The condition, known by firemen as a rollover, led to heat-blistering and smoke damage throughout the single-story brick structure.
All three City of Gaffney fire stations (headquarters, Overbrook and East Gaffney), responded to the blaze. Firefighters from the Corinth Volunteer Fire Department also responded to provide assistance.
Coleman said the American Red Cross of Cherokee County was called to help the resident. The resident's name was not immediately available.
No injuries were reported.
