(Ledger photo / JOE L. HUGHES II) A Blacksburg teen was killed Sunday in a singlevehicle accident.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said Sara Jan Mullinax, 17, of 578 Old Buffalo Church Road, died at about 4:25 p.m. when the car in which she was a passenger overturned on Brick House Road.

Mullinax was in the front seat of a 1996 Mercury being driven by her 24-year-old sister, Angela Beth White, of 736 Brick House Road, according to the coroner.

Fowler said the vehicle was headed west on Brick House Road when White lost control of the car in a curve, crossed the center line, overcorrected and the vehicle overturned.

Mullinax was thrown from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Fowler said Mullinax was not wearing a seat belt.

Mullinax becomes Cherokee County's second traffic fatality of 2009.

White, along with two other passengers, were airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Their conditions were not immediately available at press time.

The coroner said he has ordered an autopsy to assist in the investigation, which continues.
