Easter services
Limestone Presbyterian Church invites you to its Holy Week services. On Maundy Thursday, Communion and Service of Tenebrae will begin at 7 p.m. in the chapel. A Good Friday service with Buford Street Methodist Church will begin at noon at Buford Street Church, led by the Revs. Joseph James Jr. and Christine Herrin; the sanctuary will open at 11:45 a.m. for silent prayer and reflection prior to the service. On Easter Sunday at 11 a.m. there will be special music by the choir and instrumentalists. The sermon will be delivered by the Rev. Christine Herrin.
Special Easter services are planned at Park Hills Baptist Church, 1100 Leadmine Road. On April 12, a Sunrise Service will be held from 6:30-7 a.m. Those attending should bring a chair. Other Easter services include Sunday School at 9:50 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m., led by the Rev. Larry Sanders. Music will be directed by Ross Bratton. The Church of the Incarnation, 308 College Drive, invites you to attend its Holy Week services. A Holy Wednesday Eucharist will be April 8 at 8 p.m. On Maundy Thursday, April 9, an Agape meal and footwashing service will be at 6 p.m. The Last Supper experience will be recreated in the parish hall. Participants are asked to bring simple foods to share - fruit, cheese, olives, bread and wine or grape juice (no meats). Following the meal, an Eucharist in the sanctuary will be followed by the altar being stripped bare in preparation for Good Friday. A Good Friday Liturgy will begin at noon to allow worshippers to recall the despair of Jesus' death through prayers and psalms, the gospel story and a sermon The altar will remain open for prayer. On Good Friday, a Stations of the Cross service will begin at 7 p.m. and at each station, worshippers will mark another step in Christ's journey toward his death. Easter Day services on April 12 will begin with a festive Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. Worshippers are asked to bring with them cut flowers from home for the children to flower a cross as they learn about the Resurrection. A brunch and Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 11:15 a.m.
White Plains Baptist Church, 206 Soap Stone Road, will have an Easter egg hunt at the church on Saturday, April 11, beginning at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome.
"From Garden to Tomb," an interactive "stations of the cross," will be presented Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, at Camps Creek Baptist Church, 2318 Camps Creek Church Road, Mooresboro, N.C. (off Hwy. 150 south of Boiling Springs, N.C.) Guided walks will begin every 20 minutes from 6:30- 9:30 p.m. While walking with a guide, worshippers will hear readings from the Gospels and participate in each of eight different stations alongside costumed characters, including Pilate and his condemnation of Christ. White Plains Baptist Church, 206 Soap Stone Road, will have a Son Rise Service on Sunday, April 12, at 7 a.m. Breakfast will follow. Sunday School will be at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. All are welcome.
Shady Grove Baptist Church Sunday School and morning worship will be an hour earlier on Easter Sunday, April 12. The Sunday School Ministry will present its annual Easter program at 9 a.m. Morning worship will follow at 10 a.m. The Sunday School Easter party that will have egg hunts, games and refreshments will be on Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m. Children and adults are welcome.
Southside Baptist Church will have an Easter Sunrise Service on April 12 at 7 p.m. on the hill overlooking the church, which is at the corner of West O'Neal and Florence streets. In case of inclement weather, the service will be in the church sanctuary. Following the service a free country style breakfast will be served in the Family Life Center. The Youth Department of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor an Easter program Saturday, April 11, at 6 p.m. The youths invite you to come witness the last day of the life of Christ as the Drama Ministry presents, "Journey to the Cross." The play was written and will be directed by Louise Simons, president of the Drama Ministry.
Southside Baptist Church, 204 W. O'Neal St., will have a "Hectic Day Worship" on Easter Sunday, April 12, from 8:30-9 a.m. The service is designed for those who may have guests coming for the Easter meal or need to travel to see family out of town. The service will allow people the opportunity to worship though they have planned a very hectic day. On Friday, recording artist Bishop John Heath ("Put Your Hand In Mine") of Greater Higher Ground, Winston-Salem N.C., will sing.
