Please support students efforts to assist disaster victims

2009-04-06 / Letters

Dear Editor:

In today's world, the image of a college student is not necessarily a positive one. With many having a lot of partying and a little education as their focus, it is easy to think that the college years are a waste of time and sometimes money. But there is a growing number of students right here in our community who want more. They want to make a difference in the world; to make things better and share the good news of Jesus.

In May of this year, a group of 25 college students and adult leaders from First Baptist Church will head to Mississippi to continue hurricane relief for the people of the Lakeshore Baptist Church community. These students will help with construction of homes and permanent structures. These students want to be the hands and feet of Jesus as they help a community still suffering years after this disaster

The group will hold a Dough Raiser night at Pizza Inn on Tuesday, April 7t, from 5 until 8 p.m. We need to raise money to cover the cost of supplies to purchase for construction. Each student will pay their own expenses — the money raised from the Dough Raiser will be going directly to help the people of Mississippi.

Please come out and support us as we help the people of Mississippi. Bob & Angie Wilkerson Gaffney, S.C.
