Jeff & Vida bring bluegrass honkytonk sound to library for Music Sandwiched-In concert
Jeff & Vida from Nashville, Tenn., will bring their bluegrass honkytonk sound to the Cherokee County Public Library in Gaffney on Tuesday, May 12. Showtime is 12:15-1pm. The Cherokee County Public Library and the Friends of the Library will host the final concert of the Spring's "Music Sandwiched-In" series on Tuesday, May 12, featuring Jeff & Vida from 12:15-1 pm. A free lunch will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
The bluegrass and honkytonk show with Vida's powerful vocals and driving 1942 Gibson J-45 guitar and Jeff's rock-n-roll approach to mandolin and guitar is certain to have the audience on its feet tapping to the rhythm.
Performing original songs spanning from Appalachian bluegrass to alternative country, Jeff &Vida - Jeff Burke and Vida Wakeman - recently relocated to Nashville from New Orleans, where they were one of the city's best-known acoustic roots acts. After three studio recordings and years of rigorous touring nationally and internationally, the duo has found a creative musical setting with its newest band.
With ballads that sound like they could have been written 50 years ago and raucous barnstorming numbers, their live shows are exciting and unique - full of humor, good music and unforgettable songs.
Jeff & Vida's past performances include the Ryman Auditorium, New Orlean's Jazz and Heritage Festival, and the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival in Ireland. They were featured in a New York Times article titled "Nashville's Band of Outsiders" in September 2007.
Kenny Covington, director of public relations and adult programming at the library, hopes Gaffney folks will turn out to welcome Jeff & Vida to Gaffney and says he will keep everyone who has supported the library's programs throughout the years updated on the Retro Musicfest that is being planned in August.
