Special events highlight National Nursing Home Week at Peachtree
Peachtree Centre will celebrate National Nursing Home Week, May 11-15, with a variety of activities. Each day of the week will have a specific theme and special event.
Monday, May 11, will be "Old Fashioned Day" with the residents having their picture made in hats, scarves and jewelry that morning. A special snack for the residents will be provided by Peachtree's dietary department that afternoon.
"Western Day" is planned Tuesday, May 12. The residents and staff will don their Western hats, listen to Western music and have a Western-themed party during the afternoon.
Wednesday, May 13, will be "50's Day." The residents and staff will be decked out in blue jeans, bobby socks, poodle skirts and pink scarves to celebrate the special day. There will be a 50's party on the units that afternoon for everyone to enjoy. A junior volunteer, Lindsay Wright, will be present Wednesday at approximately 4 p.m. to play the Wii with the residents.
Wendy Bridges, Peachtree's assistant activities director, will host a "Karaoke Day" on Thursday, May 14. The facility will have a special sing-a-long with featured guests Amanda Knowles of Hospice Care of South Carolina and the "Kazoo Band" of Bailey Manor in Clinton. The band is led by Bailey Manor's activities director, Joseph Reilanr.
Peachtree Centre will conclude the week's festivities on Friday, May 15, with "Farm Day." The residents always look forward to this day when a special volunteer, Aaron Guyton, comes to visit and brings his farm animals. A staple for the Nursing Home Week celebration for over 16 years, Guyton's charming ways and beautiful animals are always a huge hit. The events conclude that afternoon with a special treat given out by Linda Spencer, activity director; Paulette Kirby and Jessica Spencer, activities assistants.
