2009-05-08 / Local News

Approximately 400 graduates will join the ranks of Limestone College alumni after Spring Commencement ceremonies May 7, 8 and 9 in Fullerton Auditorium. All three ceremonies begin at 4 p.m.

Professor of History Dr. Tom Thomson delivered the commencement address on Thursday to approximately 100 traditional day program graduates.

Dr. John Crangle, a Business Law, History and Political Science Preceptor at the Columbia site, will be the commencement speaker today when graduates of the Gaffney, Greer and Columbia Extended Campus sites will receive their diplomas.

On Saturday, C.R. Horton, Vice President of Information Technology and the Director of the Extended Campus Internet Program, will speak to graduates who attended the Charleston, Kingstree, Florence, Low Country and North Augusta sites as well as those from the Extended Campus Internet Program.

Dr. Thomson joined the faculty at Limestone in 1972 and is now second in seniority among the Limestone faculty. In 1983, he designed and implemented the college's Honors Program, which he has directed since that time. Thompson earned his Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of Virginia and attended Duke University as a Danforth Scholar, earning his Master of Arts and Ph.D. degrees in Russian history.

Crangle has taught at Limestone since 1998, bringing over 37 years of teaching experience to his classrooms. He is also a strong and respected voice for South Carolina citizens, serving the past 20 years as Director of Common Cause of South Carolina, a non-partisan citizen lobbying organization. He is a frequent contributor to the opinion/editorial pages of South Carolina newspapers, advocating for responsible and ethical government.

Horton, who retired in 1985 after 21 years in the Navy, began his association with Limestone College in 1988 as a student in the evening class program, then known as the Block Program.

He served in many positions with Limestone College in the evening program before being appointed as the Director in 1994. He now serves as the Director of the Internet Program. He was appointed as the Vice President for Information Technology in 2001.
