Ryan Westbrook has become a reliable starter for the pitching thin Post 109, which returns to action Tuesday at Greer. At 3-0 and outscoring its combined opponents by more than 20 runs, no team entered the traditional week layoff for beach trips and all-star games hotter than Post 109.

Coach Jeff Osment hopes his players stay that way when they return to the diamond Tuesday at Greer.

"We just have to keep everybody on the same page," Osment said. "And hopefully grow on what we've done."

Post 109 has done a lot so far. After a narrow win over Inman, Post 109 has routed Spartanburg and Union.

But Osment said Greer will be a tough challenge.

"They can hit the ball," he said.

Post 109 has received a boost from Broome's Ryan Westbrook, who has pitched effectively in his two outings.

"He's been a pleasant surprise for us," Osment said. "We are very happy to have him."

Another Broome product, catcher Bryan Parsons, has brought determination and leadership to the team.

"He's come back and been a real leader for us," Osment said.

The team had its first practice Sunday since its victory over Union on June 5. But Osment said the layoff shouldn't be a problem. In fact, it may be what the Gaffney High players needed after their long playoff run to the state championship.

"It could recharge them and help them get focused on winning another championship," Osment said. "No team played last week, so everybody is in the same boat."

After Tuesday's game, Post 109 will travel to Cherryville for a non-league game on Wednesday.

Post 109 is slated to return to Commissioners Field on Thursday for a game with Spartanburg before finishing out the week at Inman on Friday and at Greer on Saturday. The Greer game will begin at 3 p.m.
