A 24-year-old woman was slapped with a new charge just minutes after she was sentenced Monday afternoon in Cherokee County General Sessions Court.

Tisheena Dawkins, whose address is listed in court records as Genoble Road, Greer, allegedly bolted from a Cherokee County Detention Center officer as she was being led from the Cherokee County Courthouse to begin serving a 12-month jail sentence.

Chief Deputy Joel Hill of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said Dawkins was being transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center and had just been taken off the elevator at the courthouse when she broke away and ran from the officer.

Dawkins, who was handcuffed, was apprehended a short distance away.

Yelling and screaming could be heard outside the packed courtroom during the commotion and courtroom and courthouse security personnel raced outside to assist the detention officer.

Hill said Dawkins has been charged with escape.

Dawkins was in court to be sentenced on charges out of Spartanburg County. Court records indicated she faced several counts of forgery.
