Gaffney High boys varsity coach Mark Huff accomplished what he set out to do at Friday's Fort Mill Shootout - he played everybody.

"They all got to play and that's the only way they will get better," Huff said.

The scoreboard may have been an afterthought for Huff, but the Indian varsity team posted a respectable 2-1 record, beating Nation Ford, 61-39, and Clover, 63-46, before falling to Charlotte's Olympic High School, 65-58.

But that result might have been different had Huff treated the shootout as a regular-season game.

"Every five minutes we sent in a new group of players because we wanted all our kids to play a lot," he said. "The Olympic team didn't play one of their guys. In a real game situation, we may not have played everybody. But during the summer, we're going to play everybody."

Huff said he liked the effort from his team but he was disappointed in the players' shot selection in the waning moments of the loss to Olympic.

Huff said big man Bo Wray played his best basketball ever during the Clover game. He scored in double figures against the Blue Eagles.

Gaffney's other team, which featured rising juniors, also posted a 2-1 record with wins over the Nation Ford and Clover jayvee teams and a loss to the Fort Mill varsity.
