Crowd gathers for Plow Day fun
Plow Day, sponsored by the Broad River Antique Power Association, was held Saturday on Twin Lakes Road. The event is dedicated to the preservation of old farm equipment. This year’s version of Plow Day was dedicated to the memory of former member Harry Perry Thorne. The club recently finished restoring a rare 1934 Matthew Harris GP model tractor which was owned by Thorne. "This was the first tractor made by Matthew Harris," Broad River Antique Power Association member Scott Mullinax said. The Harris tractor is among the antique tractors, plows and farming equipment that were on display. Visitors got to watch a demonstration of a shingle mill once used to cut material for farmhouse roofs. The activities included tractor races, a kids' pedal pull, hay rides and a fry pan toss. Food was available, including ice cream from a John Deere motor-powered ice cream maker and door prizes were given throughout the day.
