Henry Rodney Porter, 63, of 111 Bratton Trail, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2009, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Born in Cherokee County, he was the husband of Nancy Durham Porter and son of the late Guy Sim Porter Sr. and Mary Louise Sellars Porter. He was retired from Sanders Bros., served in the National Guard, and was a member of Cherokee Gospel Tabernacle. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.

Also surviving are two sons, Raymond Wade Porter and wife, Gara, and John Randall Porter and wife, Jennie, all of Gaffney; a daughter, Tammy Michelle Porter of Gaffney; seven grandchildren, Kristi, Zack, Jami, Chris, Randi, Cody, and Danny; five great-grandchildren, Lexi, Jordan, Isaiah, Alayna, and Rylin; two brothers, Guy Sim Porter Jr. and wife, Winnie Mae, of Kingston, Tenn., and Joe E. Porter and wife, Gayle, of Gaffney; and two sisters, Loutenia Porter Milwood and Mary Ann Porter Whitlock, both of Gaffney.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Porter.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-3 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church. Graveside services will immediately follow at 3 p.m. in the church cemetery with Chaplain Carroll Hutcheson officiating.
