POLICE REPORT
The line of storms that resulted in damage across Cherokee County on June 18 also damaged a Cherokee County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle.
According to a police report, a deputy was driving on Chesnee Highway at about 5:30 p.m. and was en route to a call when the storm hit. The high winds blew three trash cans into the roadway, one of which struck the patrol vehicle, causing about $200 in damage.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the arrest of a wanted man and the seizure of a pistol at a recent public safety checkpoint.
According to a police report, Douglas Gene Cherry, 30, of Seattle Street, Shelby, N.C., drove up to a safety checkpoint on June 16 and admitted he did not have a license.
During a search of the vehicle, police said they found a pistol and subsequently discovered that Cherry was wanted in North Carolina.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that was reported outside the Connecticut Village apartment complex.
According to a police report, a King Street man was approached June 17 at about 4 a.m. by another man who robbed him at gunpoint of $570 cash.
No arrest had been reported as of June 19.
A 26-year-old Blacksburg man accidentally shot himself.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the Old Chester Road resident was cleaning a .22 caliber rifle when it accidentally discharged, striking him in the bicep.
A trailer hauling a riding mower was reported stolen from Cherokee Avenue between June 15 and June 17.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the black-colored trailer with a plywood floor was taken from the 1800 block. It contained a red-colored riding mower.
The trailer and mower are valued at a combined $1,200.
A trailer valued at $5,000 was stolen from a Huntington Road business recently.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, someone took the white-colored enclosed trailer from the 300 block.
The trailer is 16-feet long and has a dual axle.
The Gaffney Police Department on June 18 served an arrest warrant on a 34-year-old city man for an alleged June 13 assault that left another man with broken ribs.
Police charged Brad Elic Douglas, of Oxford Street, with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
Douglas is accused of assaulting a 56-year-old man and breaking three of his ribs during a dispute, according to a police report.
A Cowpens man reported the theft of $4,000 in cash from his vehicle between June 16 and June 18.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the man said the money was contained in a silver-colored wallet made from duct tape.
A construction company's tractor was stolen from the 700 block of Buck Shoals Road recently.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a 1990 Ford tractor owned by Hobby Construction of Newberry was taken from Buck Shoals Road between June 17 and June 18.
Police located tire tracks at the scene and called in a crime scene expert to collect evidence.
The tractor is valued at $6,000.
More than $1,100 in fishing gear was reported stolen from a Rockhouse Road, Blacksburg, property recently.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone took two Shimano rods and reels, an Ugly Stick rod, a Zebco rod and reel, a Plano tackle box with various lures and a camper hitch from a truck parked in the 100 block between June 17 and June 18.
A generator was reported stolen from an Old McKowns Farm Road property.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the red and black Troy Built generator, model 1100, was taken from a property in the 200 block between 5:30 p.m. June 17 and 8:30 p.m. June 18.
It is valued at $1,049.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office recently reported the theft of a van from 11th Street.
A tan-colored 1990 Ford F-350 van valued at $2,500 was taken from the 300 block on June 14.
