Miss Overcash, Mr. Phillips wed May 16
MRS. MARK STEPHEN PHILLIPS (Erica Lynn Overcash) Erica Lynn Overcash and Mark Stephen Phillips were married Saturday, May 16, 2009, at half past five o'clock in a traditional ceremony at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Clyde Thomas officiated. A reception, hosted by the bride's parents, followed at Broad River Electric Auditorium.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kevin Taylor of Mocksville, N.C., and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Douglas Nichols of Mocksville and the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Ray Overcash who lived in Cooleemee, N.C.
A graduate of Davie High School in Mocksville, Mrs. Phillips earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is employed in the legal department with Goodrich Corporation.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dean Phillips of Gaffney and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dean Spencer and Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Dean Phillips of Gaffney; and the late Alice Kimsey Spencer who lived in Gaffney.
A graduate of Gaffney High School, Mr. Phillips graduated from Spartanburg Technical College, where he pursued a career as a commercial and industrial HVAC service technician with Aircond Corporation.
The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father, Richard Kevin Taylor. Matron of honor was Kristin Morrow of Charlotte and maid of honor was Tonya Stroud of Charlotte. Bridesmaids were family and special friends from childhood and college, who included Karen Kloeppel of Charlotte, Vivi Peterson of Knoxville, Tenn., Amy Waddell of Advance, N.C., and Savannah Taylor, sister of the bride, of Mocksville, N.C.
The attendants wore black satin tea-length dresses with rose pink trim accenting the bodices that closed with rose pink satin buttons in the back. They carried bouquets of ivory and pink roses.
Flower girls were Alice and Emily Petty of Gaffney and chiming the hour was Anna Grace Phillips of Clyde, N.C., all nieces of the groom. Ring bearer was Andrew Petty of Gaffney, nephew of the groom.
The father of the groom, Thomas Dean Phillips, served as best man. Groomsmen included Bill Overcash of Cheraw, Justin Overcash of Mocksville and Landon Overcash of Charlotte, brothers of the bride; Bobby McKelvey of Fountain Inn; and Mathew Wright of Piedmont.
For her wedding, the bride wore an ivory strapless gown designed by Oleg Cassini enhanced with a satin bodice embroidered with metallic flowers, fresh water pearls and swarovski crystals. The organza ball gown skirt was covered with flowers and pearls and extended into a chapel train trimmed with metallic stitching. Her headpiece was an ivory two-tiered fingertip veil embellished with swarovski crystals and fresh water pearls. She carried a nosegay bouquet of ivory roses.
Music was provided by vocalists Nanda Bedenbaugh and Benji Steagall. Organist was Katherine Moss. Selections included "Holy Ground," "When God Made You" and "The Lord's Prayer."
Greeters and register attendants were Kate Phillips of Clyde, N.C., niece of the groom, Phil and Gayle Ellis and Marvin and Peggy Clary of Gaffney, friends of the groom. The wedding director was Loretta O'Donald of Gaffney.
After a wedding trip to St. Lucia, the couple will reside in Easley.

A bridal shower honoring the bride was held at the Cheesecake Factory in Charlotte on March 7. Kristin Morrow, matron of honor, was the hostess.
Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church hosted a bridal shower honoring the bride and groom on March 20. Hostesses were Frances Clary, Sara Bailey, Carolyn Campbell, Libby Phillips, Treva Wagoner, Beverly Putman, Catherine Pettit, Claudella Moss, Jennie Blackwood, Margaret Smith and Rosemary Worthy.
A bridesmaid luncheon was given by Sharon Campbell, aunt of the bride, in Mocksville on April 4.
A Pink Tea shower honoring the bride and groom was held April 25 at the home of Gayle Ellis in Gaffney.
The groom's parents hosted a seated rehearsal dinner in Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church Family Life Center on Friday, May 15.
