Post 109's Jason Biershenk had to work a little harder than normal for this win.

Biershenk pitched a seven hitter in another complete game, Ryan Westbrook homered and tripled and Post 109 beat Greer 5-3 on Thursday to improve to 9-0 overall and 8-0 in League VI standings.

Pitching without a normal large cushion, Biershenk had to pitch out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning. After Greer scored to pull within 5-3, Biershenk avoided further damage by fanning the next batter and getting the third out on a force out at third base.

"(Biershenk) has done everything we've asked of him," Post 109 coach Jeff Osment said. "He's eaten up a lot of quality innings for us."

Despite the win, Osment was less than thrilled with the team's intensity and he expressed his dismay after the game.

"We are going through the motions," he said. "We need to focus for all nine innings. We need to come to the field ready to play."

Westbrook apparently was. He drilled a solo homer in the first for a 1-0 lead.

Post 109 tacked on another run in the fourth when Bobby Jackson doubled off the wall to score Josh Mata, who singled.

In the fifth inning, Bryan Parsons tripled home McCrae Norton, who doubled.

Greer showed some fight, scoring twice in the sixth to pull within a run. But Post 109 answered with two runs in the seventh on RBIs by Westbrook and Parsons.

Norton, Westbrook and Parsons all had two hits for Post 109, which stepped out of league play on Wednesday to beat Cherryville in a slugfest, 16-10.

Norton had a grand slam, Parsons homered and Westbrook hit for the cycle in the game. John Michaels went six innings to get the win.

Jackson, Bubba Wright and Michael Hughey all had three hits in the game for Post 109, which hosts Spartanburg today.
