Gaffney golfer in elite company
Josh Gallman Former Gaffney High and USC Upstate standout men's golfer Josh Gallman is in elite company.
Gallman is ranked 91st among amateur players in the United States, in the latest GOLFWEEK/Amateurgolf.com rankings.
If that's not impressive enough, he's ranked 217 in the world amateur rankings and is 144th in the current World Amateur Player of the Year standings.
Gallman, who is set to start his senior season at USC-Upstate in the fall, captured four individual titles this year while leading Upstate to two team championships in the school's first year playing on the Division I level.
He currently ranks 42nd in the National Amateur Player of the Year standings after finishing 2008 ranked 392 and 2007 ranked 316.
This summer, Gallman has been as hot as the weather. He began the summer advancing to the semifinals of the South Carolina Four- Ball Championship with former Spartan teammate Baxter Culler as the defending champions of the tournament. He won the Palmetto Amateur Championship and missed advancing out of local qualifying for the U.S. Open by one stroke. He is set to qualify for the U.S. Amateur in July after finishing as a first alternate last year.
In addition, Gallman has received an exemption into the prestigious Southern Amateur Championship which will be played July 15-18 at Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tenn. He finished tied for 24th in last year's tournament and his strong amateur record allowed for an exemption into this year's championship.
Over the last three years, Gallman has claimed two amateur titles, two secondplace finishes and seven top-15 efforts. The Southern Amateur Championship brings a strong amateur field to an event that has been in existence since 1902 and will conduct its 103rd championship.
