TAYLORS - Ronald Dean Hughey, 65, of 51 River Park Lane, devoted father and husband, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, with his family by his side.

Born Nov. 20, 1943, in Gaffney, he was the son of Virginia Hughey and the late Harold Hughey. He was a 1962 graduate of Gaffney High School, an honors graduate of Clemson University with a B.S. degree in Industrial Management and received a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the Clemson/Furman University MBA program.

Ron retired in 2005 as the District Administrator for the Greenville County Health Department, where he served for over 30 years. Ron was a Captain in the United States Air Force, where he served five years as a Hospital Registrar. He was a charter member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Greer, where he served as an elder. Ron loved to fish and watch his Clemson Tigers play football.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Gwen Melton Hughey; two daughters, Traci Hughey of Providence, Rhode Island, and Kelley Self Hughey and husband Terry, of Rock Hill; a sister, Lisa Rollins and husband, Doyle, of Boiling Springs; two brothers, Roger Hughey and wife, Martha, of Gaffney and Charles Hughey and wife, Jan, of Warner Robbins, Ga.; a brotherin law, Steve Melton and wife, Theresa, of Gaffney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 27, from 1-3 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home in Gaffney. Services will immediately follow at 3 p.m. in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Martin H. Martin and Mr. Breno Macedo officiating. A private family interment will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fellowship Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1105 Old Spartanburg Road, Greer, SC 29650.

Ron was loved and respected not only by his family but also by countless friends. His wife and girls would like to thank him for being a Godly and loving husband and father and to tell him to go with God and we'll see you again.
