Former longtime Cherokee County Coroner Harley Joe Vinesett passed away Saturday at his home.

He was 82.

A World War II veteran, Vinesett held the position of coroner for 22 years before current Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler was elected to replace him in 2006.

Vinesett also was employed at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife Grace; son Mike; and daughter Rita Scalf; a brother, three sisters and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
