If you have seen this person, contact the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office or call 9-1-1. Authorities are investigating the death of a local businessman after he was found shot to death at his Cowpens area home.

Kline Wilson Cash, the 63- year-old owner of Cash Farms, was found by his wife lying on the floor of their Battleground Road home late Saturday afternoon. He was pronounced dead by Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler shortly after 7 p.m.

A longtime peach grower, Cash had recently retired after decades in the business.

Cash Farms was one of the area's last peach packing operations and also produced strawberries and various other fruits and vegetables.

According to Fowler, Cash's wife, Vickie, told investigators at the scene that an unknown man was at the home talking with Cash about buying some hay from him at approximately 3 p.m.

"Mrs. Cash told investigators there was a man at their residence talking to her husband about buying some hay when she left to go shopping around 3 p.m.," Fowler said in a prepared statement. "When she returned to find her husband lying on the floor unresponsive, the man was gone."

An autopsy conducted Sunday confirmed that Cash died of injuries sustained from a gunshot wound, Fowler said.

Investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office spent the late hours Saturday and much of Sunday hoping to find leads in the case. However, Cherokee County Sheriff Bill Blanton said little in the way of evidence has been found.

"We don't have much of anything as of yet," Blanton said. "Other than a description of the man, we have worked through the night and much of Sunday processing the home, checking leads and taking statements. That's all we have right now, but hopefully we'll see some results soon."

Blanton said his office is trying to identify the man believed to be the last person at the home prior to Cash's death. The man is believed to be a white male in the range of 6-foot 3 inches tall and weighs about 250 pounds. He has "salt and pepper" hair and was driving a small, older model sport utility vehicle.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office is lending a hand in the case, offering to create an artist's rendering of the person police are seeking. A composite drawing is expected to be released today.
