Support group

Hospice Care of South Carolina will host a grief recovery support group session Tuesday, June 30, at 6:30 p.m. at 1612 N. Limestone St. Facilitator will be Chad Bowen, Chaplain for Hospice Care of South Carolina. RSVP is not required, but preferred by calling 864-487-3166.

Special events

The Kings Mountain Historical Museum's current exhibit is "Toys and Games That We Loved." The exhibit will run through the summer, closing on Aug. 22. Featured are toys and games pre 1960 with several waiting to be played, including Chinese checkers, jacks, marbles, checkers, card games and coloring. The museum is located at 100 E. Mountain St. and is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Blood drive

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is sponsoring a blood drive Monday, June 29, in honor of two county employees recently diagnosed with cancer. The Piedmont Blood Center will set up its mobile blood unit in the back parking lot of the Sheriff's Office from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Holiday closings

Iron City Ministries in Blacksburg will be closed through July 5 and reopen July 6.

The City of Gaffney Sanitation Department will observe July 3 as a holiday. That day's route will be picked up on Wednesday, July 1. Carts should be on the curbside by 7 a.m. July 1 for pick up.

The Cherokee County Solid Waste Collection Department will be picking up curbside household garbage July 3. The Cherokee County Recycling Center and Cherokee County Landfill will be closed July 3 and July 4. The Cherokee County Recycling Curbside Collection will pick up any overflow of recycling materials on Friday, July 10.

Class reunions

Members of the Blacksburg High School Class of 1959 are planning a class reunion later this year. Anyone interested in helping plan this 50th year reunion is invited to attend a meeting Tuesday, July 14, at 6 p.m. at the Agean Pizza on Floyd Baker Boulevard in Gaffney.
