S.C. Genealogical Society plans workshop July 10-11
COLUMBIA - The 38th annual South Carolina Genealogical Society Workshop will be held Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, at the South Carolina State Archives.
The workshop will begin July 10 at 8:45 a.m. with registration. From 9-11 a.m., two hands-on tours of the Archives, conducted by Steve Tuttle, will be available.
Genealogical seminars will address a variety of topics, including DNA testing and how to use the results; progress of the Hunley restoration; genealogy research at the library; GIS for genealogy; S.C. Land Records; collections at Wake Forest; African American research; finding Confederate ancestors; N.C. Freedmen's Bureau Records; reading a plat; African Americans
after the Civil War; Cherokee genealogy; and border problems between the Carolinas in the Colonial period.
There will be a speakers' reception July 10, giving those attending an opportunity to meet and talk with the workshop speakers. Light refreshments are included.
A catered lunch for $10.50 will be served July 11. The buffet includes barbecue, fried chicken and ham plus vegetables, drinks and dessert.
