City of Kings Mountain celebrates the 4th of July
KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The City of Kings Mountain will celebrate the 4th of July with downhome Country music, a little cannon fire and the largest fireworks show between Charlotte and Asheville.
The celebration begins at the Neisler Stage at the Walking Track Park near the YMCA at 6 p.m. with a concert performance by Gary Lee Michael and Friends. He will be joined on stage by the Blackwelder Brothers and Lee Sinclair.
A Patriotic-themed opening at 8:45 p.m. features a parade around the Walking Track Park with the traditional Scottish bagpipe sounds of the Loch Norman Pipe Band and joined by Revolutionary War re-enactors with the South Fork Boys and the Back Country Militias.
Cannon nightfire and a battle re-enactment between the British and the Patriot Militias, led by Mayor Rick Murphrey, will give a heroic nod to the Battle of Kings Mountain, the turning point of the Revolutionary War.
A victory signal flare at 9:30 p.m. will start the "Fabulous 4th" fireworks show, sponsored by the Kings Mountain Tourism Development Authority.
