Miss McMurry, Mr. Phillips wed June 18
      Briana Jade McMurry and Jon Matthew Phillips were united in marriage on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Temple Baptist Church. The Rev. Billy Boone, father of the groom, officiated the 7 p.m. double ring ceremony. Kim Bagwell was pianist and played a prelude of classical selections and "Canon in D" for the processional.

Suffering with MS, she needs support and understanding
      Dear Annie: I am 49, the eldest of four siblings and have been suffering with multiple sclerosis for years. My family has little understanding of what living with MS is all about, even though they have seen me at my worst. I don't want their pity, but it would be nice to have some appreciation for what I'm going through and occasional assistance.

S.C. Genealogical Society plans workshop July 10-11
      COLUMBIA - The 38th annual South Carolina Genealogical Society Workshop will be held Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, at the South Carolina State Archives. The workshop will begin July 10 at 8:45 a.m. with registration. From 9-11 a.m., two hands-on tours of the Archives, conducted by Steve Tuttle, will be available.

Sheraton Loop residents getting golf carts ready for 4th of July parade
      Residents of a Gaffney neighborhood are busy shining up and decorating their golf carts as they prepare for the ninth annual Sheraton Loop 4th of July Golf Cart Parade. More than 25 carts will line up for the parade that will begin sharply at 10 a.m. Saturday, according organizers Kim Fowler and Lisa Mullinax.

     HAS HAIR CUT FOR A GOOD CAUSE - Eight-year-old Maegan Harris recently donated 10 inches of her hair to the children with cancer at the Gibbs Center in Spartanburg. Her brother also donated two years ago.

     AT MEETING - Trisha Blanton, Sarah Shiftlet (Gaffney's Career Woman of the Year), Patty Green Andrews, Terry Dennis and Elizabeth McDaniel (l-r) represented the Gaffney Business and Professional Women's Club at the Education Conference in Columbia. The BPW/SC was organized in June, 1919, when four local clubs jointed together to work toward solutions to the problems and challenges that women face in the working world. The mission is to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information.
