Miss McMurry, Mr. Phillips wed June 18

MRS. JON MATTHEW PHILLIPS (Briana Jade McMurry) MRS. JON MATTHEW PHILLIPS (Briana Jade McMurry) Briana Jade McMurry and Jon Matthew Phillips were united in marriage on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Temple Baptist Church. The Rev. Billy Boone, father of the groom, officiated the 7 p.m. double ring ceremony.

Kim Bagwell was pianist and played a prelude of classical selections and "Canon in D" for the processional. Marshall Northcutt performed "Beautiful Love" and "Keeping Me Alive" vocally and acoustically.

The church was decorated with various arrangements of purple orchids, white calla lilies, and white and lavender roses. The windows were enhanced with magnolia and the pews were adorned with floor-length tulle bows. The altar was complemented with four 10' white English columns that were topped with ferns and white tulle draped between. Also placed at the altar were two European antique candelabra and a matching unity candle.

Escorted and given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white lace trumpet gown beaded all over with a soft ivory underlay. The gown featured an empire waistline, cap sleeves and chapel train. Her cathedral veil of white illusion was trimmed with tiny white and ivory pearls and she carried three dozen white calla lilies wrapped in silk ribbon and pearls.

Haley Selene Peeler of Grover, N.C., attended the bride as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Caroline Margaret Wood, Hannah Elizabeth Phillips, sister of the groom, and Andrea Brook Howe, all of Gaffney.

The attendants wore fern green satin strapless ball- gowns enhanced with a shimmery fern overlay and rouched and beaded empire waistline and bodice. They carried bouquets of white roses with accents of purple dianthus.

Emily Lauren Lavender, cousin of the groom, was the flower girl. Her fern green sleeveless satin ballgown was enhanced with a full beaded bodice. She carried a basket of deep purple rose petals.

Dustin Lee Childers of Gaffney, cousin of the bride, was the ring bearer.

The groom was attended by his father as best man. Groomsmen were William Kyle Parker, Jeremy Cleveland (Bud) Hamrick and Brandon Shaw Moore, all of Gaffney and friends of the groom.

The guest register was attended by Katelyn Nicole Childers, cousin of the bride. The wedding was directed by Catherine Jolley of Chesnee, a friend of the bride's family.

A reception was given by the bride's family in the church's Life Center. Various classical and jazz guitar selections were performed by Collin Smith and Devin McEnnerney of Rutherfordton, N.C., during the evening.

The bride is the daughter of Jacquelyn D. Childers of Gaffney and John Matthew and Lisa McMurry, also of Gaffney. Her grandparents are Marvin and Peggy Childers of Blacksburg, Minnie Lou Dimond of Gaffney and David and Vonnie McMurry of Polk City, Fla.

The groom is the son of Tamara B. Phillips of Gaffney and Danny and Susan Phillips, also of Gaffney. His grandparents are the Rev. Billy and Ruby Boone of Gaffney and the late Dewey and Lee Phillips who lived in Gaffney.

A 2007 graduate of Gaffney High School and 2009 graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College with an Associates of Arts degree, the bride will begin a two-year paralegal studies program in July at SMC.

The groom is a 2004 graduate of Gaffney High School. He attended Spartanburg Community College and is employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Blacksburg.

After a wedding trip to the Tennessee mountains, Mr. and Mrs. Phillips are making their home in Gaffney.

Showers were given for the couple by Temple Baptist Church, Peggy and Kim Childers, and Susan and Debbie Phillips.

A bridal luncheon was given by the bridesmaids and a party was given by the Blacksburg Post Office.
