Things to do on the 4th of July Weekend
      Friday, July 3 Cowpens National Battlefield will celebrate our nation's independence with fireworks, music, a soldiers' camp and family activities. The free event begins at 9:30 a.m. with a guided battlefield walk and will end with a 650-shell professional fireworks display around 9 p.m.

Fire destroys home
Thursday morning
      Fire destroyed a Morgan Circle home in the Grassy Pond area Thursday morning. Neighbors reported smoke coming from the one-story brick home owned by the Nguyen family at about 10:50 a.m. The fire apparently originated in the garage area.

      The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the robbery of a Battleground Road man. According to a police report, a subject came into the Battleground Road residence of a 56- year-old man at about 4:50 a.m. June 25.
