Spartanburg topples Post 109
      Asked to explain the reason for his team's first loss of the season, Post 109 coach Jeff Osment gave the simplest explanation. "We faced a good pitcher last night who threw strikes," Osment said. Hunter Cole was that good pitcher. He scattered six hits and didn't walk a batter until the ninth to help Spartanburg edge Post 109, 5-3, at Duncan Park Wednesday evening.

      Dropping a doubleheader isn't the way Post 109 Junior League coach Travis Clary wanted his team to enter the playoffs. "I'm very disappointed in the effort," said Clary after his team was beaten 5-2 and 4-3 by Union on Wednesday.

      Hillcrest and Greer lived up to their billing at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Basketball Team Camp this week. The Gaffney Indians, the state runnersup from a season ago, did not. The Indians lost a pair of 4-point decisions to Hillcrest and Greer on Thursday.

      Thursday's results Division IV Classic Cuts 20, SageSports 7 Smooth Crew 18, Jayhawks 12 Division II Freightliner remained undefeated with a 44-39 victory over the Tarheels. Joseph Leach had 13 points for the winners.
