Evelyn Campbell
Evelyn Lula Mae Davis Campbell, 79, of 1948 N. Limestone St., passed away Friday, July 3, 2009, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.
Born in Whitmire, Mrs. Campbell was the daughter of the late Willie Edgar and Bessie Davis. She worked as a registered nurse at Cherokee County Memorial Hospital and for Dr. T.A. Campbell Sr. and Dr. Ladson Dubose. After retiring from nursing, Mrs. Campbell worked for several years as a greeter at Wal-Mart. She was a 1947 graduate of Whitmire High School and a 1951 graduate of the Greenville Memorial Nursing School. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a son, Willie Campbell and wife, Vickie, of Blacksburg; two grandchildren, Alex Campbell and Zoey Beth Campbell, both of Blacksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Edgar Davis Jr., and five sisters, Doris D. Hogue, Juanita V. Davis, Mildred D. Gaffney, Kathleen (Kitty) Carringer and Miriam D. Knight.
Visitation was held Sunday, July 5, from 2-3 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary. Chapel services immediately followed at 3 p.m.with the Rev. Vernon Craig officiating. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Willie Campbell, 128 McKee Drive, Blacksburg.
