Post 109 has its own version of the Big Bang theory - lash line drive after line drive, send 16 batters to the plate, score 12 runs and do it all in the first inning.

Although it was all over after that 12-run explosion, Post 109 scored five more times to clinch the regular season League VI standings with a 17-6 win over visiting Greer on Friday.

"We hit the ball well," Post 109 manager Jeff Osment said.

The lopsided victory was good for another reason, according to Osment. After a long layoff, Michael Wright was able to see some mound time. And he showed little signs of rust, going five innings and giving up four runs, while striking out three.

Shawn Henderson finished up, pitching two innings and allowing two runs.

The bottom of the first began harmlessly enough when McCrae Norton walked and was retired on Ryan Westbrook's fielder's choice.

However, the next 12 batters all reached safely, chasing the Greer starter.

Bryan Parsons started the string of baserunners with a run-scoring triple. Bobby Jackson and Michael Hughey then each reached on walks to load the bases. Bubba Wright delivered a 2-run double before Hughey scored on Michael Wright's single.

After John Michaels walked to load the bases, Lee Gerwick and Norton followed with RBI singles. Westbrook had a bases-clearing triple.

Jackson's double scored two more runs before Hughey's double brought Jackson home with the 12th run of the inning.

Post 109 added a run in the fourth on backto back doubles by Parsons and Gerwick.

Greer had a modest comeback, scoring four runs in the fifth. But Post 109 answered with four in the bottom of the inning on singles by

Bubba Wright, Henderson and a RBI double by Wesbrook.

Greer completed the scoring with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Post 109 will finish up the regular season with three games this week. Post 109 will play at Inman today and at Union on Tuesday before the regular-season home finale Wednesday against rival Spartanburg.

Osment said he hopes to use the final three regular season games to bolster his pitching depth.

"We might throw some people who haven't pitched for us this year," he said.
