Lancaster, Post 109 juniors set for first-round playoff tilt
      Post 109 American Legion Junior League coach Travis Clary likes his team'S chances in its first round playoff series against Lancaster. It's easy to see why. Post 109 holds a 2-1 edge in the season series and will be at full strength for the first time in several games.

Post 109 overpowers Greer, 17-6
      Post 109 has its own version of the Big Bang theory - lash line drive after line drive, send 16 batters to the plate, score 12 runs and do it all in the first inning. Although it was all over after that 12-run explosion, Post 109 scored five more times to clinch the regular season League VI standings with a 17-6 win over visiting Greer on Friday.

Community tragedy hits home for hoop team
      Gaffney boys varsity basketball coach Mark Huff said his team learned a valuable lesson, appropriately enough, at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Team Camp at USC-Upstate this past weekend. "Basketball takes a way back seat when somebody you know is shot and killed," Huff said. "That hopefully allows the message of the FCA team camp to hit home.

      Tuesday's results Division III Tymes Up 25, L&L Realty 15 Kenon Douglas was the high scorer for Tymes Up with 12 points. Bulldogs 15, Jayhawks 12 Deanta Kershaw led the way for the Bulldogs with seven points.

      Roger Federer hoisted the trophy and celebrated making Grand Slam history, a year removed from an epic five-set final when he left Wimbledon a broken man, his title ripped away and his aura of invincibility shattered. Federer waged another five-set marathon Sunday, and left as the holder of the most prestigious record in tennis.

Post 109 would go on to score 12 runs in the inning en route to a 17-6 win that clinched the League VI regular season championship. Post 109 travels to Inman today and to Union on Tuesday before hosting Spartanburg on Wednesday in the regular-season finale.

      Albert Pujols will be in a familiar spot when St. Louis hosts the 80th All- Star game. Boston knuckleballer Tim Wakefield is headed for a brand new situation. Pujols was the leading vote-getter in balloting for the Midsummer Classic announced Sunday by Major League Baseball, giving the Cardinals first baseman the start in his home ballpark.
